For parents in the Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe area, there is a scholarship that can provide up to $10,000 per year towards your child’s therapies (including ABA), school tuition, supplies, and even college fund.
The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities (also known as FES-UA) is a grant dedicated to children of at least 3 years of age with a specific diagnosis such as autism spectrum disorder or Down syndrome. They can receive the grant until they turn 22 years old or until they graduate from high school, which ever comes first.
There is no deadline to apply, but if your application is received on or before August 1st of each year, you will receive 100% of the approved funds by September 1st. If applying on or before October, 75% of the approved funds will be distributed by November 1st. If applying on or before January, 50% of the funds will be provided by February 1st, and if applying on or before March 1st, 25% will be distributed by April 1st.
The amount varies by the diagnosis, area of residence, and the student’s current grade. It functions as its own bank account and funds are pulled out on a quarterly basis to directly pay service providers who have been approved as a FES-UA member. The providers take care of sending a request for reimbursement and the parent does not need to pay for the service(s) billed if there are funds to cover it.
